Matt had Memorial day off so we decided to make it an extra long weekend and head to Utah. It was so great to spend time with family, even for just a few days. Thursday, I took Matt to work, took care of some errands, and then went home and packed up the car. With the car loaded we picked up Matt and were on the road by 4pm. We made great time and made it to Salt Lake at midnight.
Friday, we spent the day with the Chapman Family. Lily loved having lots of grass to run around on and signed “flower” constantly.
Having a little goldfish snack before getting back to playing.
I love going back each summer and seeing how big their plants have gotten and how beautiful their garden is. It’s amazing!
These two have become really good friends in the last month. I love watching them play together. They were swinging on this swing and giggling like crazy. It was too cute!
We ate lunch at The Pie and ordered at least double the amount of food that we needed. There were LOTS of leftovers to take home. But it was oh-so-delicious!
The guys went to see a movie while all the girls had “Cousins Camp” with Grandma Nina. She had art activities for the older girls while the little ones were napping. We went to this fun park in West Jordan. It was designed to be like old-towne Salt Lake. The big tower to the right is supposed to be Saltaire. It was a cool playground and the kids sure had fun.
It was nice that there was a “Tot Spot” for little ones. Lily wasn’t quite tall enough for some of the areas but she still had fun.
Melody and Lily had a great time together on this swing for handicap kids.
Elise couldn’t be left out of the action!
All the Chapman Cousins. This is the last year it will be all girls with two boys coming to the family this year. It will be exciting to see the picture next year with the new little ones!
Elise really had her heart set on flying a kite while her Uncle Matt was in town. He wasted no time and got right to work making a kite with newspaper, glue, string, and dowels. They found some other kites in the basement and hurried outside to try them out. Unfortunately the wind completely stopped! So they tied this balloon up to the string and let it soar!
After dinner there was a slight increase in wind and we jumped at the chance and went to the park to see if we could get them up.
Someone mentioned the idea of attaching the kite to a fishing pole. We were all impressed how great it worked. It was so much easier for the kids to hold on and much quicker reeling it back in when we were ready to go.
All the kids had fun playing on the playground.
We ended off the night with a visit to Matt’s Great Aunt Doris and chatting with his Grandma. A great start to our trip. And with nearly 400 pictures taken over the three days, there’s definitely more to come!
