We have finally started decorating our bedroom. Matt had a week break and whenever he has a break from school we (er, I mean Matt) always seem to be painting. He painted the walls a sage green. We had to go back to Lowe's a few times before we got the color right.
Last Friday Cami got off work early and we drove up to Ikea for some much needed storage cabinets. We realized that if we had all of our clothes clean, we couldn't put them all away. There would still be a pile of clean clothes with no where to go. Matt was on the Ikea website for a few days, taking measurements, getting all kinds of grand ideas. Before we left Ikea, we had managed to FILL two carts. Apparently, Matt had a few more things on his list than I had anticipated.
(just in case you needed a reminder of what our bedroom looked like before)
The storage cabinets are huge! We need a ladder to get to the top shelves. I guess we can't complain about not having anywhere to put something.
Ikea things- storage cabinets, lights (Matt loves small spotlights!), table lamp, tulip photo on canvas, stool (Cami painted it with the extra wall paint).
We "adopted" a good idea from Corey and Jill. They gave us the idea of displaying all our pictures on magnetic dry erase boards. The photos are actually 8x10's. So now you can see how big the dry erase boards are. I guess we like big things.
These "plates" we found at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They're actually candle holders.
We recently bought an Origami book. Now Matt's creations have a proper display.
The bedroom looks SO much better. We go in there a lot more than we used to. And we can actually keep it clean enough to leave the door open when we have guests! That is definitely an improvement.
Two sundays ago the wind seemed great for kite flying. We hurried home after church and Matt began constructing a kite. We had something to eat and headed for the park.
As usual, it was a bit of a struggle to get the kite to stay in the air. Adjustments had to be made to the tail. Our newspaper kite was soon flying high in the sky.
We even had it doing tricks--flipping and diving all over the place.
There were some other kite flyers at the park. They kept looking at our kite (in envy, of course). They had kites that looked like they were from Costco. And any of you that have had experience with their kites you understand that these kites are not made to fly. But they sure look cool. We quickly made it to the end of the line so we layed the blanket down to sit and gaze and the little diamond in the sky.
Since the kite was flying great, Matt decided to tie the line to his foot. Brilliant!
We readjusted the blanket, sat back down and looked up only to find that our kite was no longer in the air. With our attention on the blanket neither of us noticed the kite plummet right into the trees.
Matt tried to pull it out but broke the string instead. And that was the end of our kite flying for the day. We gathered up our things, took some farewell pictures of the kite and headed home.
Our ward had an ice cream social on Friday. Because we are on the activities committee, we got to help. There was ice cream with all the trimmings of an excellent sundae. Matt and I were in charge of two games for the kids. We decided to do a limbo game and face painting. Another couple did Hula Hoops and Pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. The face painting was a HIT! Kids starting asking us to paint their faces before the event had even started and we pretty much painted for the next two hours straight.
We didn't even get any ice cream. Oh well, probably better off that way. The lightning bolt was the most popular with flowers and rainbows close behind. It was a lot of fun and the kids sure loved it. Even some of the adults had their faces painted. But we both agree that the flower Matt painted on Cami's cheek was the best.
We even got help from another dental student. Don't worry, that's his own kid he's painting on. He was much gentler with the other children.
It has been way too long since we have posted anything and lots of things have been happening. Three weekends ago Corey and Jill came down from Maryland to visit us. They came Saturday afternoon and we headed downtown. We ate at Bottoms Up Pizza which is located right under the railroad tracks. Not exactly where I would think of putting a restaurant. But they didn't seem to be hurting at all and the pizza and appetizers were yummy.
We spent the next few hours walking and shopping on Cary Street where we found the coolest toy store. World of Mirth had really cool toys, some of which Matt couldn't leave without. He got a balancing rubber thing
and a robot, which is from the TV show Lost in Space.
It took us awhile, with the help of Google, to figure out what the show was called. Anytime anyone comes over, Matt immediately asks them if they want to see his robot. And apparently it has even "earned" a space on the bookshelf. We'll see about that. Boys and their toys...
Two weekends ago, we had our stake temple day so we went and did some sealings.
After we were done we drove up to Maryland to see Corey and Jill's new apartment. They were worried we wouldn't like it. But they were worrying for nothing. It was very cute and had a fireplace. awesome. So we ate a quick lunch and decided to go for a hike since the weather was beautiful. Cunningham Falls was just a short hike away. We couldn't get very close, something to do with forest preservation, but it was still pretty. After getting a few mosquito bites and some pictures we headed out.
Corey and Jill took us to the most interesting mall we had ever been too. It was one of those malls that your jaw drops, your eyebrows go up, and you think, "Wow." But it's not a "Wow this is really cool." There were at least four stores that advertised all of their merchandise being one price. In fact, it was the name of their store. The 66 cent store. Nothing over 1.99. Deal or MORE Deal (very clever). Check out the link for more "great" store names. Almost every store was a copy of the next. It was like the flea market had taken over the mall. We had a few chuckles when one store had small figurines that said Florida all over them. Are we still in Maryland!?!
We went back to the apartment and ate a delicious roast which Corey made and caught up on some Deadliest Catch.
Sunday, we went to church with them and left for Richmond right after. The visit was short but we're glad we went.
Last week Cami started another job. Along with teaching, she is working at the library just down the street from the apartment sorting and reshelving books. The work is a bit tedious but the hours go fast. Matt has come to study while she is working. This would be one of the reasons why there hasn't been anything posted for a while. Two jobs is tough. Hopefully the extra paycheck will make it worth it.
Matt has been studying hard as his classes come to an end. Three big tests are coming at the end of the week. Good thing I'm not around as much to distract him :)
We have been married for 11 wonderful years and had many adventures together. We live in Colorado where Matt is working to support our adventures! Cami is enjoying being a Mommy to our three sweet girls. We love our life together and the adventures we share. Welcome to our blog, we're happy you've come to visit!
