Washington DC with the Roberts

Cameron and Haley came over to hang out a couple weeks ago (May 9th). We were going to go camping but it had been raining so much that we didn't want to drive 2 hours and deal with a soggy tent. We decided that we would go to Washington DC the next day but Cameron and Haley didn't want to go all the way home so they slept over at our apartment. That night we went to Rugged Outerwear. This place has stuff for really cheap-clothes, shoes, accessories. Haley found some Sketchers for $5, and the guys got some fabulous plaid shorts.
We had a yummy breakfast of pancakes and eggs and then set out on the 2 hour drive. The took the metro the rest of the way into Downtown. Our first stop was the National Garden and Greenhouse. There were SO many beautiful flowers and plants to take pictures of. I filled up my 2G card just with pictures of the flowers.
We went to the Library of Congress. I don't think I've been in a building with more artwork and architecture. It was stunning. And we got to take a peek at the rare book section, from behind a wall of glass.
Then we went to the American Indian Museum for lunch. It was really cool. They had food choices separated by region-Northern Woodlands, South America, the Northwest Coast, Meso America, and the Great Plains. We went with the Great Plains region and had an Indian taco. Delicious.
Our last stop was the Natural History Museum with dinosaur skeletons, stuffed animals, and of course the Hope diamond and other precious stones.
Every time we go to DC we discover more and more things that we still have to see and do. Hopefully we'll be able to see everything before we leave the east coast.
More pictures of our trip.

DC Temple and the Goodyear Blimp

We went to the DC temple a few weeks ago (May 3rd). We haven't been for so long so it was great to be able to go and spend time feeling close to the Lord. I love it every time we go. We walked around the temple grounds for awhile so I could take pictures. It was kind of the wrong time for a lot of the flowers, the spring flowers were almost finished and the summer flowers haven't really started yet. But they were still good subjects for my photos. Here are more temple pics.

Later that night Brian and Kimberly took us to a nice little restaurant by their house. NASCAR was in town that weekend and Brian and Kimberly live really close to the Richmond International Raceway. We could see lots of airplanes with banner ads. It was the coolest when the Goodyear blimp went right over their house.

Then we went and saw Made of Honor. I thought it was pretty good, some unique twists I didn't see coming.

The New Lens

I just have to say that I LOVE my new 30mm lens. It takes great pictures in lowlight (which is most of my pictures). I love not having to worry about the pictures being blurry or have a lot of "noise". They look clear pretty much every time. The one bad thing about it is that it practically doubles the weight of the camera, so it's very front heavy now. That has taken some getting used to. Here are a few pictures I've taken.

Change is in the Air

I know it's been forever since the blog has been updated. Things have been busy and stressful. Things at work have not been going well for me with an angry assistant who does not want to help with the kids. GRrrr! So I've decided to look for other employment. For the past two weeks I've been working really hard getting applications completed and sent for 5 school districts around Richmond. I'm happy to say that I've sent them all off and it feels good. Hopefully in a few days I'll hear back from them for interviews. It's such an ordeal to apply to new jobs. That's one of the reasons I stayed at my job this year. But I couldn't bear to think of staying another year with an assistant that is unhelpful. So wish me luck!!!
