this baby’s got wings

At the ripe old age of 2.5 weeks Lily took her first plane ride. We took a family trip to Denver for a second interview with Pacific Dental and to spend time with Daniel, Jessica, and their cute girls.

Sophie and Tessa were so sweet with Lily. Sophie kept saying, “Baby Wilwee is so cute!” And Tessa wanted to be by whoever was holding Lily.

Jason and Candice even drove to Denver to spend the weekend with us. Aren’t they awesome?!?

The next morning I got the fun experience of Denver Urgent Care when we found out I got a Bladder Infection.  Thanks to modern medicine I was able to enjoy the rest of the trip.

Dinner at the Cherry Cricket.

Playing at the Mall since there was a big snowstorm going on outside.

BROTHERS

March 19, 2010_72

While the girls were playing, some of the gang went to the nearby candy store and bought some overpriced candy that fizzes in your mouth. They were alright, an interesting taste but not horrible. But leave it the the guys to make things more interesting by  biting the hard candy and letting the fizz hit their tongue all at once. You can see by the pictures how well that went :)

Even Sophie loved the candy! Lesson learned: fizzing candy – not so good.

The next morning we ate brunch at a fun place called Snooze. They jammed all 9 of us at a round table with rounded booths. Needless to say, we were cozy! The unfun part: we think Matt got food poisoning there. That night (and the next day) he spent a lot more time in the bathroom than he was hoping. But luckily he was much better by the time he had his interview.March 20, 2010_123 March 20, 2010_130

We spent some time driving to different areas around Denver. It all looks nice, like a place we could get used to living in. But it won’t be anything like Richmond (we’re really going to miss living here).

These three made an awesome snowman while the rest of us hung out in the nice warm apartment.March 20, 2010_172

Lily smiled and started cooing more while we were in Denver. SO CUTE! She is getting more social everyday.March 21, 2010_177

While Matt was at his interview the girls went to the Denver Zoo. It seemed like everyone else in Denver had the same idea. It was packed!

March 22, 2010_209 March 22, 2010_213

Matt feels really good about his interview and the company he interviewed with! Hopefully soon we’ll know if Denver is where we’re supposed to be next.

We LOVE when Grandmas come to visit

Matt’s Mom came for a visit while Matt took his boards. It was so great having her in Richmond again. Thanks for all your yummy meals!

Snuggling with Grandma is the Best!!

Matt finished his boards and feels confident that he passed. Now we just have to wait a month to find out. We tried to enjoy some of the wonderful spring weather while Nina was here.Mar162010_0002 Mar162010_0003

I LOVE watching him be a Dad.

it all comes down to this

Matt is taking the Western Regional Boards today and tomorrow. He has been working so hard towards this test and now it all comes down to his awesome dental skills and his patients showing up.

Good luck Babe,

I know you’re going to do great!

I am so proud of all your hard work and dedication throughout all your years of schooling to get you to this point. You are going to look so fabulous in this in a little over 2 months. I can’t believe it’s so soon!March 13, 2010_1 March 13, 2010_2

Question: Who has bigger eyes?

March 09, 2010_45

Our little girl is getting bigger.

Lily is now 2 weeks old, 8 lbs 8 oz and still growing.

She’s already growing out of some of her newborn clothes, which makes me a little sad.

Thank you Grandma

We can’t begin to thank my Mom enough for all the help she was while she was here. I am so glad she was here for Lily’s birth and the first week of her life. It was so wonderful to have the laundry and dishes done and have meals on the table. And I believe it’s a fact that no one can calm a baby faster than Grandma.

March 04, 2010_377

While she was here we were able to show her a few things in Richmond. We drove down Monument Ave, did some shopping in Carytown, went through downtown and drove by the Dental School.

The day before she left the weather was gorgeous so we took a walk at Maymont and saw all the animals.March 07, 2010_482March 07, 2010_492March 07, 2010_502

THANK YOU Mom for EVERYTHING!! We can’t wait to see you again soon.March 08, 2010_530

We’re so glad Daddy’s home!!

Matt spent most of last week in Denver for some job interviews. We missed him so much! The only thing that got me through it was my Mom. She is so awesome and I would have been more of a hormonal blubbering mess without her.March 07, 2010_508

Settling in

I think we’re finally starting to get used to this new adventure. Lily is so tolerant of her learning parents. And we just adore her. I find myself just staring at her in awe. Such a sweet little piece of heaven in our home.

One thing I was hoping she wouldn’t inherit from me was dry skin. We have to lather her up with Aquaphor everyday to try to control her peeling skin. Poor girl.March 03, 2010_14web March 03, 2010_21web

She is already doing well with sleeping for longer and longer stretches during the night, which I’m really grateful for.March 03, 2010_26web

the story

This is for those that want to know the labor and birth story.

We went to the hospital at 6am Friday morning for our scheduled induction. The doctor broke my water at 7:30am and told me that I had to stay in the bed, due to my blood pressure, which I was really bummed about. I was dilated to 2 cm and 70% effaced when they broke my water. After 30 minutes they started me on a low dose of pitocin to see if that was enough to get my body to contract regularly. Around 10am I was in active labor. I continued to breathe through all the contractions as they got more and more intense. I was able to stay calm and keep my body very relaxed. Feb262010_0012

Even though I was having painful contractions when the nurse came in to check my vitals she thought I was sleeping. Matt helped by fanning me with a large clasp envelope and feeding me ice chips. My mom was there to massage my legs and back, which felt heavenly. My blood pressure went down each time the nurse checked it and I was eventually able to sit in the rocking chair which was so nice. Around noon the doctor came back and said I was already dilated to 7 cm and almost 100% effaced. At around 1:15 the nurse called the doctor to come back. I spent the next hour and twenty minutes or so pushing hard with each contraction. After an episiotomy and a few more pushes she came out. At 2:40 pm Lily Grace was born. Feb262010_0019

They immediately placed her on my chest as they rubbed her off. We were surprised at how much hair she had. Matt cut the umbilical cord. I was happy and surprised that he did since he had said multiple times that he wasn’t going to and that he wanted to be in the waiting room during the delivery.

But he was such a great support throughout the whole process.Feb262010_0052

I was so glad that my Mom could be here too. It was comforting to have her in the room and knowing she could help me through the hard times.
