the finer things in life

Lily is discovering that there is more to life than just laying on her back and drinking milk.

We tried solid foods for the first time a week and a half ago. She wasn’t too sure about the rice cereal at first, but now she really enjoys it (but only if it is really runny).  August 10, 2010_4142

She also LOVES bananas when we put them in the mesh eater.

It is a BIG mess but she can’t get enough of them!August 13, 2010_4227

She also likes fresh pears in the mesh thing but not baby-food-pears. I can only get her to eat them if they’re mixed with rice cereal. The same with carrots – mostly rice cereal with a little carrots.

With the whole bottle fiasco from our Utah trip we decided it might be time to try a sippy cup. It’s been a success! She isn’t really good at keeping her mouth closed so she ends up having a milk bath. But we’ll take that over screaming any day! We’re going to put it to the test this weekend when we drive back to Utah. Wish us luck!

Lily is sitting up all by herself now! Our little girl is a fast learner and can stabilize herself really well, even when Daddy is shaking the bed!

She is SUPER PROUD of herself! And we are too!

Another Utah Trip

I love living within a day’s drive to Utah. It means lots more time with family that we’ve been missing the past four years. My family was supposed to have a family reunion but because of a miscommunication our location was double-booked so we couldn’t go. Matt had already taken the time-off and couldn’t really tell his assistants to cancel their vacations and come back to work, so we decided to go to Utah anyway.

On the way there we tried to feed Lily with a bottle to save time. We quickly learned that she has decided she wants NOTHING to do with the bottle! She screamed for almost an hour until we could stop somewhere for me to feed her. Despite our extra stops, we still made it to Utah in 9hrs. not bad.

To keep Lily entertained Matt gave her a pretzel stick. She loved licking it and mashing it in her hand. When it got too small and we had to take it away she cried until we gave her another one. We’re finding out this girl’s got SASS!

We were so excited to meet baby Jaycee!! She is super cute and looks just like her momma.August 06, 2010_3971 August 06, 2010_3970

Saturday we went with my family on a hike up to Donut Falls. This hike is an awesome choice for families that want a short easy hike. And the falls are constantly changing because of landslides in the spring. There are always new obstacles at the top. Lily loved her first experience hiking, especially looking at all the trees and getting to ride on Grandpa’s shoulders!

That night we had a mini-campout to celebrate all the August Birthdays. Since we have so many, the cake had to be abbreviated. So Happy Birthday to Shar, Natalie, Lexi, Bud, and Mom!

Unfortunately the party turned south when little Noah tripped and got burned from a handful of ash. But apparently now he’s a little Michael Jackson with an awesome white glove! Hope you’re feeling better Noah.

Sunday we hung out with the Chapman Clan playing games, eating yummy food, and visiting with Grandma.

And one last picture of Lily getting a little taste of the “Granddaddy of all Root Beers”  :)

fishies

Anyone that knows us knows that we love exploring new places. And one of our favorites is aquariums. Denver has a great aquarium and we just got a year membership so anyone that comes to visit (hint hint) will definitely get to see the aquarium.

As part of our membership, we get to:

*feed the manta rays

(check out Sophie’s face. She’d finally got up enough courage to get close to the manta rays and one came splashing out of the water at her! Needless to say, she didn’t get close again)July 30, 2010_3842

*and a soda or a chance to climb a coconut tree (which no one has been willing to do yet)July 30, 2010_3831

It is a really cool aquarium and I;m glad we got the membership. And our new place will be closer, so we’ll be able to go more often!

the search is over

For the past month and a half we have been spending many nights and weekends looking at houses to rent. We are so excited that the search is over and we are the proud renters of this adorable house! These are the pictures off craig’s list so they’re small and compressed. As soon as we get the keys in Sept. I’ll take more pictures.

It is a cute craftsman bungalow with a fenced backyard and a 2-car garage. The neighborhood seems nice and it is within walking distance to shops and a park. We are excited to be out of an apartment but not excited to move again in a month. But at least we don’t have to move our stuff across the country again :)
