She’s 2

It’s hard to believe she’s already 2. Lily has grown up before our eyes these last couple months. She’s definitely not our baby anymore.

Lily’s 2 year old stats:

Weight: 27 lbs 4 oz (50%)

Height: 34 1/4 in (50%)

Head: 48 1/2 cm

Lily, at 2 years old:

• you love to be busy – you always seem to have so much on your agenda, like filling baskets with various toys, climbing inside boxes, hiding under the covers on Mom and Dad’s bed, pushing the stroller around the house (rarely with a baby in tow – usually lots of small toys)
• you inherited your Daddy’s love of all things sugar
• you could have crackers and milk for every meal of the day
• when I can get you to eat other things you like to eat: bananas, apples, pears, carrots, green beans, chicken nuggets, pasta, rolls, corn dogs, yogurt, frozen waffles, banana pancakes, french fries
• you are quite a picky eater right now, mostly because you think doing what Mom and Dad want you to do is for the birds. Sometimes we try to sneak bites in when you’re not paying attention because we know you’re just being stubborn
• you are talking more and more each day. Mommy’s pretty much the only one that can understand you most days. You use the sounds “b” and “d” for most consonants making understanding you out of context nearly impossible.
• when you get excited and try to tell us something, your talking gets very choppy
• Some of the things you say: “nay doo momma/da-ee” (thank you momma/daddy), “luh-you doe mush” (love you so much), “muh” (Emma), bir-bee (birdie), and lots more but I can’t think of them
• you still use some sign language : milk, bird, blanket, water, mom, dad,
• your favorite things to sleep with are your baby and your blanket. Sometimes other snuggly toys join you in bed but those two are a must
• you love to go to the playground – we can’t wait for more warm days!
• you still have a hard time not being the only child anymore – you like it to always be your turn to do whatever Emma is doing. Which isn’t such a bad thing when Emma’s getting her diaper changed, since normally you run and hide
• you are getting more and more independent (which drives your Mom and Dad crazy sometimes!)
• you know most of your letters and colors
• you can count to three, from there the numbers get all muddled

For her birthday we (Matt) blew up a bunch of balloons and put them in the hallway just outside her bedroom. She was so excited when she saw them!

She wanted Daddy to enjoy the balloons too.

Her birthday landed on a Sunday this year so she got to open one present before Church.

After church, and before her nap, she opened some more gifts.

And after nap she opened the rest. Notice the progression of her hair getting more ragged with each present-opening. It was nice to only open one or two presents at a time. And she was more than happy to play with each toy as we opened them and didn’t even ask to open the others.

She picked out her cake (with some help from Daddy) at the grocery store – rainbow chip with rainbow chip icing.

She was so excited when we finally told her we were having her cake. She danced around the apartment saying, “my ber-day cake! my ber-day cake!”

She also did a little “happy dance” while eating her cake.

We realized that one cake mix makes way more cake than the three of us could handle. After a few days we ended up throwing away most of it.

Lily couldn’t resist digging right into her cake. And knowing that we wouldn’t be trying to save the whole thing anyway, I let her go at it.
