Sunday, we spent most of the morning and afternoon at the beach. The house is only about a block from the private community beach. It was great. Sandcastles were made- complete with a moat and a bridge. Pretty awesome!
Cami was transformed into a mermaid, Brian into an octopus (with large bosoms like ursula), and Cameron into a sunbathing suma.
We caught a few crabs.
And we even got in the waves a few times- the water was pretty cold.
We headed back to the house and spent time in the pool and hot tub.
We made some kites to fly at the beach. The boys made a BIG Trogdor kite (complete with "awesome lines") and the girls made a Calvin kite (from Calvin and Hobbes).
Kimberly came Sunday night and we enjoyed grilled salmon and potatoes. Mmmm. A little fella' even came to visit us during dinner. The boys found him out by the pool and decided to surprise the girls while they were making dinner. Yeah, yeah, very funny.
After dinner we headed down to the beach for some glow-in-the-dark frisbee tossing.
We were only there for a few minutes when Matt noticed the hundreds of crabs roaming the beach. The focus quickly turned to catching crabs. Some of the boys ran back to the house for crab-catching supplies--a bucket, shovel, and a flashlight. The girls kept their distance as the boys ran around screaming like little girls as they tried to catch the very quick crabs. They each managed to catch one or two and were satisfied.
Monday we went to the beach early so we could fly our kites. The Trogdor kite had a much easier time getting in the air. Calvin just didn't want to go up without a fight (that's so like him).
When we were done flying the kites Brian "accidently" dropped the string and we all watched as Trogdor slowly dropped into the sea.
We swam in the water for a while and then went back to the house to get cleaned up to go shopping. Cami got a new swimsuit and Haley got some new sunglasses.
We had hamburgers and hot dogs, cleaned up the house, took a few pictures of the gang, and left around 9:30 pm to try and miss the traffic. We had smooth sailing until the traffic came to a complete stop. It was slow-going for about 10 miles where we passed a stalled car. All that traffic for a stalled car!?! We made it back to Richmond around 12:30 not at all ready for school or work the next morning. But it was so fun! We are already planning for our next Virginia Beach trip.
